Al-Shabab FC is a Saudi football club based in Riyadh, founded in 1947. The third force in the capital behind Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, they hold six league titles and one continental trophy. Supporters know them as Al-Laith, the white lions.

Six titles across two decades
Al-Shabab have won the Saudi league six times. Three of those titles came in a row in the early nineties, in 1990-91, 1991-92 and 1992-93, one of the few runs of its kind in the country. The club went on to win again in 2003-04, 2005-06 and 2011-12.
That consistency over a long period places them immediately behind the two big Riyadh clubs, without their ever having matched that international exposure.
An Asian title and a continental final
The club won the Asian Cup Winners’ Cup in 2001. They had previously reached the final of the Asian Club Championship in 1992-93, where they were beaten.
Domestically, Al-Shabab have also won three King’s Cups, in 2008, 2009 and 2014, along with three Crown Prince Cups, in 1993, 1996 and 1999. Few Saudi clubs show that kind of consistency across both competitions.
The capital’s third club
Riyadh has three leading clubs, and Al-Shabab are the one whose history is most closely tied to the other two. Al-Hilal were formed in 1957 out of an internal split at the club, which makes that rivalry one of the oldest in the kingdom.
Their ground, holding around thirteen and a half thousand, is markedly smaller than those of their neighbours. That compact size gives home matches a denser atmosphere, something visiting sides regularly note.
