Al-Riyadh SC is a Saudi football club from the capital, founded in 1953. The fourth club of Riyadh behind Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Shabab, they finished as Saudi league runners-up in 1993-94, their best top-flight result.

The fourth club of Riyadh
The Saudi capital holds four Saudi Pro League clubs, which makes it the best represented city in the league. Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr dominate the billing, Al-Shabab hold the historic third place, and Al-Riyadh bring up the rear.
That standing is not only about honours: the club spent close to two decades outside the top flight between 2005 and 2023, an absence that long erased them from the media landscape of their own city.
The club with three names
Founded in 1953 as Ahli Al-Riyadh, the club was first renamed Al-Yamama, after the historic name of the Riyadh region, before adopting that of the capital itself.
That succession of identities sets them apart from the city’s three other clubs, whose names have not changed since they were formed.
A benchmark season in 1993-94
Al-Riyadh have never won the league, but they came close in 1993-94, finishing second. That same year they won the Crown Prince Cup, followed by the Federation Cup the season after, in 1994-95.
Those two trophies make up the bulk of their domestic honours.
Repeated returns to the top flight
The club won the first division in 1977-78 and again in 1988-89, the second of those taking them into the top flight. They were relegated at the end of the 2004-05 season.
Their return came in 2023, secured by a fourth-place finish in the first division. They play in a twenty-two thousand seat ground, the second largest in the capital after those of their neighbours.
