Ittihad Club is a Saudi football club based in Jeddah, founded in 1927. It is the oldest club still active in the kingdom, which earned it the nickname Al-Ameed, the dean. Supporters also call the side the Tigers, a reference to the yellow and black of their shirt.

The only Saudi club to win Asia twice
Al-Ittihad won the AFC Champions League in 2004 and again in 2005, two consecutive continental titles. That is a rare achievement across the continent and the high point of the club’s history.
Domestically, they rank among the most decorated sides in the country, with a league title in the 2022-23 season and another in 2024-25. They have also lifted the King’s Cup on several occasions.
The signings of 2023
The summer of 2023 was a turning point for the club and for the league. Karim Benzema, the reigning Ballon d’Or holder at the time, joined Al-Ittihad from Real Madrid, along with N’Golo Kante, who arrived from Chelsea.
Those signings, made at the same time as those of Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli, marked the start of a new period for the Saudi Pro League, whose four leading clubs came under the control of the Public Investment Fund that same year.
A deep local following
The club holds a particular place in Jeddah, where it contests one of the oldest derbies in the country against Al-Ahli. The two sides now share the same ground, which gives the fixture an intensity rare in Asian football.
The Shining Jewel
King Abdullah Sports City opened in 2014 on the northern edge of Jeddah and seats more than sixty thousand people. Its nickname, the Shining Jewel, comes from the exterior lighting that surrounds the bowl, and it was the first stadium in the country built to modern international standards.
The ground hosts both Jeddah clubs, which is unusual at this level of the game and means the derby is played without a true away side. It has also staged national team fixtures and domestic cup finals.
